Talons vs Wings
The second of three regular season meetings between the two Nighthawks teams, Wings & Talons, took place in a sun drenched Gosforth yesterday (June 23).
Game 1 saw visiting Canadian, Cam Wright take to the mound for the Wings with Morris Chen making his final appearance as catcher before moving to Texas to start life at Baylor University.
Nighthawks club captain Paul Brown took to the mound for the Talons.
An early 2-0 lead by the Wings in the top of the first followed a 1-2-3 bottom by Wright.
After just over an hour of play Peniche took over the mound with the score at 3-1 with the Wings adding four more runs off the back of impressive hits from Lavorgna and Wright they increased their lead to with 7 runs on the board.
The Talons made some great hits too with a late rally of hits, however they struggled to get players back home and ended game one with a 7-3 loss.
A much changed lineup for both teams in game 2 saw Jordan Lee pitching for the Talons in his final ever game before leaving the UK after graduation this month. A couple of early hits from the Wings failed to materialise in to runs and Lee kept his command throughout the game allowing only 1 run.
The Wings struggled with their pitching and defence allowing 10 runs over the course of the game.
The results leave no change to the current standings with the Wings in 2nd currently 1 game behind the Talons
Next stop is a visit to the Summer Cup for the Nighthawks as a club.
