Double Doubles
Sunday was a full day of baseball action with both Nighthawks teams taking the diamond, thanks to clear skies and no weather-related postponements.
The NEBL leaders, Talons, traveled with a slim nine-member squad to Edinburgh. In game one, the Talons showcased their experience after three scoreless innings, ultimately securing a 12-5 victory. Game two was a high-scoring showdown that saw the Talons maintain their lead at the top of the table.
Meanwhile, the NEBL's second-placed team, Nighthawks Wings, hosted the Co Durham Spartans for their first encounter of the season. After a slow start, Wings pitcher Zach Lau took control of the game, allowing only three runs over six innings. The Wings' strong offense backed him up, leading to an 11-3 victory.
Game two was a different story as the Spartans struggled on the mound. Walks and hits in the first two innings resulted in the innings being capped at 7 runs each. Estil Peniche delivered a solid performance, giving up only 2 runs throughout the game, with the Wings winning 18-2.
The Wings MVP for the day was Pedro Wilson, who made his first start as a Newcastle player. He secured several outs and went 6-for-5 over the two games at bat.
Next weekend, the Wings will host the Rays in Gosforth.
